Pet insurance advice

Hi friends-

Wondering if any of you purchase insurance for your pups? We've been reading more about it lately and trying to figure out if it's a good idea for Turtle. Knowing how adventurous he is (and most Puggles are), it's likely he'll get himself into a pickle one of these days.

Any providers you like, articles you've read or general advice would be much appreciated!

Best-
Maris, Tyler & Turtle

Hi Turtle! We don't have pet insurance on Bruschi, but we have looked into it. From the ones I have seen online, you pay for everything out of pocket, then submit your receipt and they will offer a partial reimbursement. But if any complications ever arise that are from genetics, they won't cover it. They have lists of dog breeds and common ailments and all of those are automatically not covered. (so anything a beagle could have, or a pug could have they won't cover).
Although some people swear by it! If you find a good company let us know!

hello Turtle, I hope you stay warm in Ann Arbor.
We were searching for an insurance plan for Preston when we first got him but couldn't find any that we feel good enough for the cost. There are a lot of complaints about the coverage. It seems like many people didn't realize the problems until they needed to file claims. We checked petinsurancereview.com. Most of insurance plans have mixed review. We put off getting insurance for Preston and wanted to wait until he was "a little order". Recently, we think he is "old enough" and it might be a good idea to get him an insurance. We can't really expect the coverage would be as good as human's but some reimbursement is always better than nothing. we might go with one that also covers some routine care.
Please keep us posted on your research.

Hiiii!! I know when I was looking for pet insurance, it was definitely a process in looking at all the company's policies and comparing them with one another. If you take a look at www.petinsurancereview.com it has reviews from customers on insurance companies! I found that site pretty helpful because it is always nice to read about another person's experience. I eventually went with Trupanion because their policy is pretty affordable and it pays 90% of the vet bill. I definitely do not regret getting insurance for Kloe because literally a month after getting insurance she broke her arm! Bruschi is right about the reimbursement, with Trupanion you do have to pay the vet bill up front and then submit a claim. When I did this, I recieved the check within a weekish. But I read with other companies it can take up to months! I hope this helps and I really hope that you both do decide to get insurance! It definitely saved me some money on some vet bills!
